(Fergus, ON.) – On Tuesday September 22nd, 2009 at about 7:26pm County of Wellington OPP officers responded to a reported collision that had just occurred on St. David Street South, Fergus.
Officers arrived and located a 1999 Olds Alero crashed into a tree on a property on St. David Street, Fergus. Police spoke to numerous witnesses who state the car accelerated northbound on St. David Street and went through the stop sign on Albert Street. The auto continued north and ignored the stop sign on Union Street, narrowly missing a group of teens on the road. The car then lost control and skidded onto the lawn of Graham Giddy Funerals, smashing the sign and then coming to rest against a tree.
The car started on fire and was extinguished by the arriving County of Wellington OPP officers. Centre Wellington Fire Department – Fergus attended to assist police with the extrication of the trapped driver. Police feel speed and alcohol may have played a part in the collision.
The vehicle driver, Reginald Graham aged 48 of Fergus was taken to GrovesMemorialHospital, Fergus then air lifted to HamiltonGeneralHospital with non life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate the incident.
